ODE TO HELENI, FROM YOUR VIKING INVADERS

AND, SO, EACH DAY  WE FORMED A PHALANX OF WHICH YOU CAN BE VERY PROUD. WE HEARD OUR MARCHING ORDERS OF ANNIHILATION ALWAYS CLEAR AND LOUD.

WITH HERCULEAN STRENGTH WE MARCHED EACH DAY WITH HARDLY A WHINE AND ONLY OCCASIONALLY DID YOU HEAR, “SO HOW MANY STEPS DO WE HAVE TO CLIMB??”

YOU DAZZLED US WITH TALES OF HEROES PAST AND TO US WESTMINSTER FOLK, THE NEW IMAGES OF ED AND JOCK WILL FOREVER LAST.

YOU ROMANCED US WITH TALES OF GODDESSES AND GODS AND BROUGHT US TO THE VERY PLACES UPON WHICH PAUL SPOKE AND TROD.

ECHOING IN OUR EARS “ARE YOU CRAZY?” AND “ARE YOUR ORGANS ORGANIZED?”, WE SADLY COME TO AN END

AND, SO, DEAR HELENI, YOU WILL FOR US ALL FOREVERMORE BE THE FACE OF GREECE—-PROUD, WITTY, WISE AND PASSIONATE–YOU HAVE FILLED OUR HEADS WITH KNOWLEDGE, MEMORIES, LAUGHTER AND A HOPE THAT LIFE WILL BE GOOD TO US ALL–FOR AFTER ALL, THE FATES HAVE DECREED IT SO.
